The Irish Examiner’s Spin Doctor has been hitting the stats books in a bid to find a winner for the 3 Irish Open. Here are his findings.
1. Graeme McDowell: The honeymoon is over for GMac and with an average position of 10th place in his last five events, two season wins and a nine event cuts made streak, he tops the field with an 85% chance of winning.
2. Rory McIlroy: Quail Hollow winner Rory is predicted to come second with an 84% chance. His season scoring average of 70.02 is set to go below the 70 mark following this week.
3. Justin Rose: Rose hasn't picked up a club since the Open but that doesn't compute in the maths equation. It may help, it may hinder, but computer says with two wins and five top-10's its going to be third for Rose.
4. Padraig Harrington: Five season top-10's and three majors to his name yet everybody wants to talk about Harrington. He's just a bounce of a ball away from a win in my opinion but computer says fourth.
Ross Fisher: Beginning to find a bit of form
5. is Ross Fisher but with the clamour for Ryder Cup Captain's picks beginning to resemble kids pushing to get on the school tour bus, Fisher needs something special and fast. A 70% chance.
And the rest
6. Francesco Molinari
7. Stephen Gallacher
8. Rhys Davies
9. Bradley Dredge
10. Shane Lowry
